Club notes 1 SeptemberSENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-13; Feale Rangers 0-14. We progressed to the quarter final of the Co. Championship with a well deserved victory in a tight game at Listowel last Saturday evening (28th Aug). We shaded the first half by one point (we lead 1-5 to 0-7 at half time). The second half threw up a similar score. We scored eight points to seven for the opposition. We were two points ahead after five minutes with points from frees by Graham O'Connell after fouls on David Mannix and Kieran Donaghy. Then in the space of five minutes Rangers took the lead with four points from play. However a Kieran Donaghy goal following a good cross by Pa McCarthy saw our lead restored in the 17th minute and we maintained that lead to half time with points from play by Mikey Collins (2) and team Captain, TJ Hogan. Two quick points inside four minutes of the resumption gave Rangers a one point lead again but this was to be their last time in the lead. Between the 35th and 39th minutes we put over four beauties, by Graham O'Connell (free) and three from play by Star (2) and Padraig McCannon. The Death of Club President Fr Micheál Galvin![]() FR. MICHEÁL GALVIN: It is with the greatest of saddness that we have learned of the death of our beloved Club President, Fr. Micheál Galvin. He died peacefully at Fatima Home at 11pm on Monday night (23rd August). Fr. Micheál was born in Rock Street on 13th April 1919, just two years after the foundation of the Club, in which his uncle Christy Barrett was a founding member. He played with the Club in his young days and then followed his calling to the priesthood. He was ordained in June 1944 and later that year the Club appointed him President, a position he held for 66 consecutive seasons, surely a record never to be equalled. And even though his priestly ministry took him to many different parishes throughout the Kerry Diocese, he never really left the Rock. He loved nothing more than being on the sideline supporting whatever team was playing on that particular day, whether it was the Under 12s or the Seniors, the Hurlers or the Footballers. And even though he always naturally wanted the Rock to win he would never begrudge victory to the opposition. His other great sporting loves were Horse Racing and Greyhounds and he once named one of his greyhounds in honour of the great Bracker Regan, calling him 'On the Forty'. He was there for our celebrations and our sad times, our baptisms, our weddings and our funerals, for our victory celebrations and our social events. He will be greatly missed by his family and by his many friends in the Rock and elsewhere. Our sincere sympathy to Norrie and Tunney and their families and to all his other relations.
