Jarleth Lyons living the USA contacted us via our club website recently and attached a beautiful old team photograph. He wrote – “My grandfather, Joe Devane, came over from Tralee in 1900, and ended up in Chicago. He grew up on Castle street almost directly across from the church. They had some kind of general store there. I am one of nine, and we have all scattered (half in Seattle now ….), but my folks, Tom & Lillian Lyons still live in Chicago. My mother had this old photograph which had been in the possession of her father (Joe Devane) sitting on the far right in the photograph)
The photograph we have established was taken in 1898 and is of the John Mitchels Tralee Team (there was only 1 club in Tralee at the time). Austin Stack is in the top row, fourth from right. Austin was 19 years old at the time and his grand-nephew Eddie Barrett informs us that Austin’s father William Moore Stack passed away that year. Many thanks to Jarleth for taking the trouble.
Anyone who has old photographs please contact Eddie Barrett at this email address: eb@reanorths.ie
