On Saturday 24th August, our U13 girls hosted the girls from Milltown GAA Club, Co. Kildare in a challenge game in Connolly Park. The match was a closely contested event, with victory on the day going to the home side. No doubt a re-match might be arranged sometime in the future for these promising young footballers.
The visitors were in Tralee with their families to enjoy the festival weekend, and with a family connection or two between the clubs the match was arranged.
Playing on the Milltown team was Anna Mulpeter, whose mother Sarah Galvin is sister of the late John Galvin, club footballer, who passed away after a short illness at the young age of 32 in 1998. (See Galvin group photo below )
Also with the Milltown group was Petronella Curran, whose daughter was playing with the team. Petronella’s father, John is a past Austin Stacks player, and her grandmother is Nora O’Sullivan from Garryruth, Ballymullen (currently resident in Ocean View Nursing Home.)
Thanks to Annette Carmody and her catering team for providing food and refreshments for the visitors, and to John Breen and the grounds committee for preparing the pitch facilities.
