THE BRACKER 100KM FUNDRAISING WALK: Club Chairman, Billy Ryle was out bright and early on last Friday morning (17th July) and is now halfway through his 100km fundraising walk on the Bracker O’Regan Road. The weather has been excellent so far and the journey has been shortened by the people who turn up to walk with him. The waves and car horn blasts as people walk, cycle or drive pass adds to the craic and banter on the walk. Billy’s regular companions on the fundraiser, Noel O’Connell, Tim Slattery, Liz and Denis O’ Regan, Martin Collins, Carmel and Martin O’ Regan are full of fun, with multiple stories and anecdotes about Rockies, past and present. Billy would love to see more people joining him on the walk during the remaining days. Join in at any stage and walk a few kilos at your own pace. The 6km session gets underway at 10am. A shorter walk of 4km follows at 3pm.
There is a huge social dimension to the walk but it’s all about raising the money to build a path with disability access. So, Billy is appealing to all Austin Stacks members and supporters to dig deep and make a donation to the fund. Billy is also requesting all Rockies to share the link with as many people as possible.
Over the final few days, Billy is trying very hard to convert promises of donations into hard cash. He is appealing to people to make the donation now lest they forget. Every single donation, big or small, will be gratefully accepted and will help to make life a bit easier for those who want to enjoy the games in comfort. The new path will prevent footfall damage on the pitches and will facilitate disability access to the far terrace in Connolly Park.
