The Central League started in style for the Stacks Under 12 Footballers against our close neighbours ‘The Mitchels’ on Monday 13th June last. In all we were able to field three teams at under 12 with a panel of over 45 young children. The really good story is that most of the children got over 45 minutes of football and that has to be good for the game. The Central board was set up to give children of all ages a game and last Monday was no exception. We brought nearly 30 children to Boherbue and two great matches followed mainly made up of children who were born in 1999 and those born in 2000 ie under 12’s and under 11’s.
The Under 12’s
Austin Stacks: 5 – 9
John Mitchels: 1- 5.
It would be fair to say we caught our neighbours off guard in this match as our lads played out of their skins throughout the game. Robbie Murphy continues to shine in goals for us and he was ably assisted on the night by Shane Kelliher, Thomas Sheehy, Shane Walsh and Harry O’Callaghan. Others to star were Eoin Lynch, Cian Holden and Kieran Killeen. Doon duo David Fitzmaurice and Joseph O’Connor (just recovering from a broken finger) played really well as did Ciaran O’Reilly (fresh from his sliver in the javelin in Ennis) Michael Linnane, John Holmes and Donagh McKivergan. Pauge O’Looney has to get special mention as he has excelled all season both at the matches and in training. It’s good to see these lads mature into really quality players and you can see the way they are progressing being able to kick with both legs.
They are really looking forward to taking on our other neighbours Na Gaeil on Tuesday 21st (the longest day of the year). Training continues on Monday and Friday at 7 in Connolly Park.
Under 11’s:
Austin Stacks: 5 – 10
John Mitchels: 2- 8.
This was really a very entertaining match played in great spirit by both teams. While the score line would seem we won easy it was in fact far from easy as we were down 1- 6 to 1- 2 at half time. Credit to the lads in the second half they really up the anti and got some wonderful scores from the likes of Gearoid Sheehan, Dylan Casey and classy Cian Mc Auliffe at full forward, who has a lethal left leg: he is currently working on the right leg which is great. Cian Talbot was as solid as a rock in goals and has a fine kick of a ball. In defence we had some sterling performances from the two Ronan’s Moore and Foley. Simon Draghici was also very good as was Oisin Liston, Evan O’Connor and Gearoid Fitzgerald when he went bak to help out in defence. Hugh Healy is enjoying his football and is adapting well since he joined. Ian Dillane got a mighty point in the second half after some great work by Darragh O’Sullivan. Dean O’Connell is a thorn in most defences and he played excellent again on Monday. Alan Dore is also improving with every match. Well done lads and keep up the training and the practicing at home.
