The West Awake - Clare & Galway Take Trophies West

Photographs now added:At the club grounds in Connolly Park, and in glorious sunshine (buíochas le Dia), an extremely impressive Salthill/Cnoc na Cathrach team (Galway) were crowned 2014 Lee Strand Under 13 Champions on Sunday last. A power-packed display gave them a victory over our own gallant boys from The Rock...5-13 to 1-7. (Half time: 2-5 to 0-5). Congratulations to the excellently drilled Tribesmen who exacted a revenge of sorts from the corresponding fixture two short years ago. Our own campaign was not without distinction as the team has improved considerably over the past few weeks and won all their three group games on the Saturday as well as their best showing in the semi-final v Cuala Kickhams (Dublin).

John Lynch R.I.P.

DEATH OF JOHN LYNCH: Even though he was ailing with some time nonetheless, all in the Club and the wider community were saddened to learn of the death of John Lynch (Lisloose). John was a former player – late forties/early fifties - and usually lined out in the half back line with such stalwart defenders like Joe Flaherty, Frank Kissane, Doc McHugh and Jerry Pluggy Moriarty. Later, John was a valued member of the Club Committee and served as Vice Chairman for a six year period (1984-1989). He was instrumental at that time in securing and maintaining the 'Nuns Field' for our Juveniles which, coincidentally, is now taking on a new phase under the stewardship of his son Liam, who is the current Vice Chairman of the Club. John was a Vice President of the Club and as well as his son Liam's involvement in Club activities, his grandsons – David, Mark and Rory - play with the Juvenile teams.
Sincere sympathy to John's wife, Phil, sons Liam, Shane and Enda, daughter, Gillian, sister Betty and all his extended family and friends.  Funeral arrangements as follows:  Reposing in Gleasures Funeral Home tomorrow Thursday 5.30-7.30pm, followed by removal to Our Lady & St. Brendan's.  Requeim Mass Friday at 11am burial afterwards in Rath Cemetery.  May he rest in peace.

What A week in the life of Austin Stacks U13/14

Last Wednesday evening our U14 Boys A Team capped off an impeccable season winning their fourth trophy, The Coiste na Nog Town League Title with a victory over Churchill at Connolly Park on a scoreline of 6-13 to 2-13 with Sean Carmody chipping in a remarkable hat trick from midfield. Captain Donagh McMahon headed up a strong panel who showed tremendous discipline and composure when it was needed most. These lads can now enjoy a well deserved break for a few weeks before they begin their preparations for next year's Under 16 season.  Mentors:  Dave Scanlon, MIke Casey, Mike 'Chips' Clifford.

Junior Co. League Final Photos

A wonderful game of football, played in very warm conditions, at the end of which the sides could not be separated. As the light was fading fast, referee decided not to play extra time, so the teams will have to meet again. Some match photos below:
