PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 10: It was a great year for the Under 10 footballers. Their ‘scalps’ included victories in the John Lynch and John Mitchel Club Tournaments. PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 14: Our Under 14 boys will be presented with their well-deserved and hard-fought-for medals for their outstanding performances in the Central, County and Féile games. The presentation ceremony which will take place ag an gclubtheach at 5 o’clock on Sunday week (December 10th). What a season these boys have had….yet another county title and a great trip all the way to the Sligo Féile Peile. Beidh an tigh lán go doras ar an 10ú, is dócha!
PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 16: The presentations to our successful Under 16 County League team will take place in the clubhouse on Friday December 8th (Lá Fhéile Mhuire gan Smál). Bhí an-bhliain ag an ngrúpa seo. These young men won the two main football competitions for their age group. Bhuaigh siad An tSraith Láir v Raonaithe na Leamhna in Aibreán agus chloígh siad An Léigiún sa Phríomhchomórtas i Lúnasa. Tá rogha is togha na bpeileadóirí san aoisghrúpa seo!
TÍR GAN CLG: Imagine Ireland without the GAA! What might fill the ‘gap’? Youngsters have a big choice of sports nowadays and ‘other’ sports might seem to be gaining momentum. Look at handball – how strong is the game in Kerry? All-Ireland titles have come to Tralee in the past! We had the great days of Fitzgerald and (Fr Tom) Jones who played in the Gas Terrace Alley. (Tá sé fós ann!) Names like Kerins, Fitzgibbon, Myles and Downey spring to mind. How many handballers have we at present? Does the Fitzgerald-Jones Club have young players? If handball ‘slipped’ quietly away? If hurling ‘faded’? Will football be always so strong? In the 1880s, Dr Thomas William Croke, archbishop of Cashel and first Patron of the GAA, maintained that ‘ball-playing, hurling, football-kicking according to Irish rules….may now be said to be not only dead and buried but in several localities to be entirely forgotten’. How people and mindsets can change! Bímis ag machnamh!
SCÓR: It’s the turn of senior members of the club have a go at Scór! Why not? Could we have a table quiz team of only 4, a 5-person bailéadghrúpa, 5 musicians for a grúpa ceoil, damhsóirí, srl?
