PEIL FAOI 10 – CORN SHEÁIN UÍ LOINGSIGH: Lá dár saol! report by Liam Lynch. Perfect weather, brilliant football, great joy and fun and over 500 smiling players’ faces made last Saturday’s 5th annual John Lynch Memorial U10 Tournament a day for the annals. From the first arrivals (Oranmore) and their watching of the rugby match on the big screen in the club car park to the final departures (Oranmore again!) after a la carte meal of sausages and chips, everything went exactly to plan and an enormous and well-organised football feast finished well ahead of schedule. It was wonderful to have had 16 clubs from 8 counties playing simultaneously on 16 pitches at 2 close venues and we thank every club, player, mentor and parent a thaistil go Páirc Uí Chonghaile. It was really heartening to see the 8 clubs based in Connolly Park line up in a guard of honour to greet the other 8 that had paraded up from Caherslee before the finals and it was a joy to experience the huge crowd singing a rousing Amhrán na bhFiann….on such things are lifelong memories based. And a new winner will be engraved on the John Lynch Memorial Trophy as newcomers, Ballincollig, were worthy victors in a great final v Mungret of Limerick. Phil Lynch presented the beautiful John Lynch Memorial Cup to the happy Ballincollig captains tar éis an chluiche mhóir. In the Shield Final, Oranmore of Galway overcame the famed ‘Barrs from Cork and, whilst there were 6 other finals, the key point is that every young star was a real winner. These young sportsmen were aided by excellent refereeing and exemplary parent and mentor encouragement…..take a deserved bow, all! A very sincere mórbhuíochas croí to each and every helper – you have all been thanked individually but suffice to say that without every single volunteer putting his/her shoulder to the wheel the day would not have been the success it was. Ní bhíonn damhsa gan dua agus nach ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine? To Naomh Molaise, Oranmore, Naas, Kilmacud, Templeogue, Glanmire, The Barrs, Ballincollig, Doora-Barefield, Mungret, Kenmare, Laune Rangers, Legion, Churchill and Ardfert:….see you all in 2020!!! Lá mór dár gclub agus lá speisialta do Chlann Uí Loingsigh.
