(ii) The A boys won another hard-fought game v Laune Rangers in Killorglin on Thursday. Team: Shane Cotter; Jamie Horgan (capt), Marc Carmody, Jack Slattery; Luke Fitzgerald, Colm Browne, Paddy Lane; Togor Silong, Adam O’Carroll; Éamonn de Barra, Noah Townsend, Jamie Ó Sé; Dylan Cunningham, Michael Tansley, Damien Hogan; (ionadaithe) Seán Heaslip, Daniel Kirby, Thomas Deregee, Marc Ó Loingsigh. (iii) Fixtures: (a) the A team was away to Ardfert on Monday, had a fine victory and is now in the semi-final. (b) the B team was away to Milltown/Castlemaine, defeated the North Kerry boys and are now in the final. (iv) The U14B team guaranteed their Central League Division 4 semi-final place on Monday night with a well-earned victory over a hard-working Laune Rangers team. Our lads got off to a flying start with goals from the full forward line of Ryan O’Driscoll (who gave a display of very intelligent corner forward play and scored 1-2) and Thomas Derege (who plundered 2-1 from his full forward position). We were 2-2 to their 0-0 tar éis seacht nóiméad. Laune Rangers responded with 2 quick goals from A.Owens and were in the lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The Black’n’Amber boys were rocked back a little but responded superbly, led by Man-of-the-Match Seán Heaslip. He covered every inch of the pitch as he made many charging runs from his halfback position, one of which ended with a fine point from near the sideline. He was always an outlet when the defence was under pressure. The Killorglin boys responded with 4 more scores before a ding-dong half ended with 2 late goals from Ben Murphy who cut through the Rangers’ defence following great runs from halfback by Daniel Kirby and Ciarán Kavanagh. 9 scores apiece at halftime! However, our lads were 0-6 ahead ar chlár na scóranna….5-4 to 2-7. The second half started with the sides trading 0-3 apiece but desperate defending by The Rock backs was required to snuff out a number of Puck goal chances during a period of Killorglin dominance. Steven Conway was rock solid between the posts and expertly cleared his lines several times under intense pressure. We then had a run of 5 unanswered points before the Rangers rallied with a quick 1-1. They had more goal chances when our backs were exposed but Mark Carmody held the centre against the big men from the Laune. Fionán Ryan and Barry Nagle got back time and again to protect the goals and carry the ball from the gap of danger. Luke Fitzgerald and Ben Murphy ran themselves into the ground at midfield and Captain Mark Lynch orchestrated the attack with clever passing, 2 pointed frees and 2 well-taken points from play. Gavin Casey and Ronan Carroll were marauding from the wing forward positions and posed too many problems for the Killorglin defence to handle. The full forward line of Jake O’Connor, who was a key link man, Thomas Derege and Ryan O’Driscoll got on the scoresheet and made the difference with a total contribution of 3-4 between them. David Slattery finished off a fine contribution with a well-taken goal….the final score of the game. An fhoireann bhuacach: S.Conway; B.Nagle, M.Carmody, F.Ryan; S.Heaslip (0-1), D.Kirby, C.Kavanagh; L.Fitzgerald (0-1), B.Murphy (2-2); G.Casey, M.Lynch (capt)(0-4, 2F), R.Carroll (0-1); J.O’Connor (0-1), T.Derege (2-2), R.O’Driscoll (1-2); D.Slattery (1-0).
