ACADAMH NA gCAILÍNÍ: (i) SUNDAY: The Acadamh girls were lucky with the weather once again on Sunday last at the Cathaír Sailí (Stone Fort of the Sally) pitch where more than fifty of our girls came along for training; great craic was had by the girls with new equipment once again being put to good use by all age groups from Under 6 to Under 12. Training continues next Sunday at Cathaír Sailí with a throw-in time of 11am. Once again, some more new players joined us but, as we have said before, there is always room for a few more…fáilte roimh chách. Bailíonn brobh beart! (ii) FAOI 12: The Under 12 girls had a home game, which they won, against Scartaglin on Tuesday 7th. They also had training on Wed 8th. I went along to this session and was thrilled to see how much effort these girls are putting into their training. The Under 12 girls have a bit of a rest from matches for most of July but a couple of friendly games are being arranged. Further info will follow. (iii) CAMPA SAMHRAIDH: This week’s successful summer camp was enjoyed by all. (iii) We played away to St. Pats, Blennerville, on Monday with a disappointing result. They had a few central players who were too strong for our hardworking combination. We made a great comeback just before the break and again midway in the second half when we scored a good goal but it wasn’t our night! Our lineout and scorers: Craig Corcoran; Dylan Harnett, Aidan McQuinn, Enda Jordan; Jason Carroll, Seán Ryan (0-1), Claudio Dema; Breandán Caball (1-1), Niall Carroll-Cane (1-0); Richard Hurley, Brian Hill (0-2), Tadhg Ó Murchú; Cian Ó Cathasaigh (1-0), Anthony Moynihan (0-2), Shane Flaherty. PEIL FAOI 15: Our representatives on the Kerry Under 15 Development Squad, Shane Walsh and Ciarán Ó Conaill, did well in Monday’s challenge v Kerins-O’Rahillys.
PEIL FAOI 16: (i) The Under 16 lads have training on Mondays, on Wednesdays and on Fridays at 4pm in Connolly Park. (ii) We faced Kerins~O’Rahillys in our opening game on Wednesday in Connolly Park and made a good start to our league campaign with a 4 point win. It was an evenly matched encounter. We motored well at times and showed some of the expertise that we are capable of producing in abundance. As the battle swung to and fro we seemed, on several occasions, to be about to explode into total dominance but then eased off and allowed the K-O’R lads to display their football skills and things looked good for them for a while! However, a fine goal in the final quarter by Darragh O’Brien dispelled any ambitions that Máistir Déaglán’s players might have had and we finished the stronger of the two teams. While Joe, Seán and the players themselves were satisfied with the victory…tosach maith…they know that they can’t relax during the next assignment. Scór: Stacaigh: 1-10; Ó Céirín–Ó Rathailligh: 1-6. Team and scorers: Paddy Fitzgibbon (did well sa chúl); Alan Duggan, Alan Crean, Tomás Mac Lochlainn; Ciarán Ó Conaill, Stev O’Connor, Niall Commane (was unlucky with a good goal effort); Shane Walsh, Dean Bastible (0-2) (the midfielders ran at least one marathon!); Danny de Róiste (0-2), David O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Brien (1-2); Scott Monaghan (0-1), Danny Carroll (0-2) (showed well when moved to centre forward), Shane Crowley (0-1). Fir ionaid: Pól Ó Gealbháin, Barra Ó Conchúir, Kyle Mac Giobúin, Conor Jordan, Lúcás Ó Donnaile, Greg Horan, Tomás Ziga, Mícheál Ó Gallchóir. (iii) In our 2nd game against Killarney’s Legion, after a close exciting match, we finished on level terms. We probably should have emerged as winners after a great gutsy performance. An scór deireanach:- Na Stacaigh: 2-10; An Léigiún: 3-7. At least, we shared the spoils! (iv) County championship: Wednesday 19th August.
IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 16/17/18: (i) On Monday last in Ardfert our hurlers challenged the local minors. Though our lads were unsuccessful, the mentors were satisfied with many performances and with the great effort made by all. They showed improvement on the previous outing…another forward step has been taken by these enthusiastic hurlers. An fhoireann: Ciarán Ó Conaill (sa chúl); Peadar Ó Loididh, Andrew Foley, Joe Meehan; Lúcás Ó Donnaile, Floyd Ó Beoláin, Greg Ó Dúlaing; Dylan Ó Croidheáin (o-2), Aaron de Barra; Brian Óg Caball (1-1), Fearghal Mac Conmara, Daryl; Eoin Sugrue, Seán de Róiste, Alan. Sub: Breandán Duffin. (iii) Hurling training will take place in Connolly Park at 7.00pm on Wednesday and also at 7.00pm on Friday.
