Abbeydorney will now play Ballymac in the Cup final with the loser to meet Stacks in the Shield final. We have several back games in the Town League Div 1 still to be played V John Mitchels, Ballymac & Na Gaeil. Our U14B team played some excellent football on Sunday last (Oct 8th) when we comfortably defeated Kerins O’Rahillys in the Div 2 Town League our next and final game in this league will be away to Churchill.
U16 Girls: We have qualified for the Town League Final V Na Gaeil will be played at 5.45pm this Thursday October 12th – venue TBC. Thursday nights game will likely also double up as the North Kerry Shield Final (Castleisland conceded to Na Gaeil).
Senior Ladies: Munster Intermediate Club Semi Final: Following a brilliant win over Burren Gaels, Clare in the QF our Senior ladies travelled to Mallow last Saturday morning to face Kinsale in the SF. The Cork side had subjected us to a heavy defeat in the Munster Junior Championship 1st round last year so the girls knew they were up against it particularly as we lined out without our Kerry player Laura Rogers and our brilliant young defender Ellen O’Connell. Regardless even after 20 minutes the outcome of this game was never in doubt as the Cork side were completely on top, playing some breath-taking football and creating chance after chance. The differences between the teams was stark – Kinsale play in Div 1A of the Cork Co. League and with 5 inter-county players including their full forward, Cork Senior ladies top scorer Orla Finn. It was a tough day for this young Stacks team featuring many minor players and a couple of U16 players. Alas, the gap between the sides was too great and Kinsale powered through to finish the game on a score line of Austin Stacks 1-5 Kinsale 8-17. Stacks can be very proud of the girls who gave it their all and represented us so well throughout the campaign, probably going down to the team who will eventually take the AI title. We thank club mentors Aidan Mc Carthy, Martin Mc Kivergan, Paul Lucey & Jemma O’Connell for all their hard work with the team over many months. The club would like to extend it’s thanks to Kirby’s Brogue Inn who treated the team to dinner on return home – it was a lovely gesture and we are very appreciative. Here is the 2017 County Intermediate Championship Winning Team: Deborah Mangan, Karena Slattery, Norma O’Connor, Sarah Higgins, Ellen O’Connell, Deirdre O’Shea, Caitriona Horgan, Aoife Dillane, Laura Rogers, Maeve Mc Kivergan, Clare Brennan, Sarah Hoare, Breda Slattery, Caoimhe Barry Walsh, Karina Quilter, Megan O’Brien, Marina Barry, Mollie O’Carroll, Jemma O’Connell, Gemma O’Connor, Sarah Fitzgerald, Dakotah Carter O’Flynn, Lauren Barrett, Emma Mc Carthy, Leanne Hannafin, Lorna O’Sullivan, Lauren Murphy & Ciara Rogers.
