U14 Girls: Co League Div 1 FT Cromane 5-10 (25) Austin Stacks 4-7 (19) We travelled to a very windy Cromane on Good Friday afternoon to play the home side in our 2nd Co. League fixture of the year. Stacks started brightly as Grainne Carmody found the net with a well taken goal but Cromane are a formidable side and it’s fair to say took over proceedings from that juncture, and but for an opportunist free kick by Lara Flynn which deceived the Cromane keeper and found it’s way into the net and a late point by Ella Breen we were completely out-classed and were lucky to be just 6 points down at half time.
Stacks put in a much improved 2nd half and within 15 minutes had cut the Cromane lead to just 2 points with a goal by Tara Clifford and points from Roisin Coffey, Grainne Carmody, Tara Clifford and the best of the bunch by Ella Breen. A goal by Grainne Carmody but us into the lead for the first time in the game but once again Cromane found their groove and it seemed that anything we threw at them they had an answer for. Points by Heather Mac Namara and Ella Breen kept our tally ticking over. Cromane struck for their 4th goal and raced into a 2 point lead before adding another point. Stacks then went in search of the equalising goal but failed to crack the Cromane defence and when the home side stuck for their 5th goal the result of this game was decided. Great credit to both teams for serving up an excellent match in very tough conditions. Best for Stacks on the day were Lara Flynn, Clodagh Murray, Brenda Devane, Ella Breen and Eimear O’Sullivan who all played with great determination throughout. Special mention to our goalie Laura Sommers who played a blinder and brought off some heroic saves in both halves. On a positive note it was good to see Bronagh Kelliher (introduced at half time) stepping up to the U14 grade. We look forward to seeing more from this very young and exciting defender who displayed maturity beyond her years in last Friday’s game.
Team: Laura Sommers, Vivienne Dineen, Grace O Mahoney, Grace O’Connor, Eimear Litchfield, Ella Breen (0-2), Clodagh Murray, Brenda Devane, Lara Flynn (1-0), Roisin Coffey (0-1), Eimear O’Sullivan, Nicole O Mahony (0-1), Heather Mac Namara (0-1), Tara Clifford (1-1), Grainne Carmody (2-1) Subs used Bronagh Kelliher, Sara Lucid, Ali Lane & Roisin O’Donnell
