Congratulations to club player Marina Barry Walsh who will be honoured at the Kerry Ladies Awards night taking place in the Rose Hotel this Saturday night with a special ‘Club Player Life-time Award’, a fitting tribute to our most decorated club football player. This year Marina completed the hat-trick of Kerry Championship titles (Senior, Intermediate & Junior) when she won the Intermediate title with her beloved Austin Stacks. Marina is of course the holder of 10 Senior All Ireland medals.
Senior Ladies – Two outstanding fixtures still to be played before our 2017 season concludes: Co. League Div 3 Final Austin Stacks V Spa Killarney on Sunday 5th November and the Mary Jo Curran ‘C’ Final V Milltown/Listry on Sunday 12th Nov. Time and venue for both games TBC.
U14 Girls: We played Na Gaeil in the Town league last Tuesday (Oct 17th). Na Gaeil completely dominated the 1st half and at half time led by 3-3 to 0-1 our only score coming from a pointed free by Heather Mac Namara. The introduction of Lara Flynn and Grainne Carmody at half time was pivotal to our 2nd half come back, and come back we did with two fine goals by Heather and Ella Breen and a brace of points in the final quarter. Stacks were most unlucky to see not one, not two but three great goal efforts come off the upright in that 2nd half but in the end Na Gaeil’s first half performance was enough to see them hold out for a 2 point win. FT Na Gaeil 3-5 Austin Stacks 2-6. Our scorers on the night Heather Mac Namara 1-4, Ella Breen 1-0, Eimear Litchfield 0-1, Grainne Carmody 0-1 (free). So still waiting on other results before we can confirm our next Town League fixture. Our U14B team are in the Town League final V Ballymac possibly Sun Nov 5th but details tbc.
U13 Girls: We will welcome St. Vincent’s Dublin this Sunday Oct 29th for a challenge game at 11am in Caherslee.
U12 Girls: Big thank you to all at Kerry Co. Museum who arranged for our U12 girls to make a visit to the fantastic ‘Haunted Hall’ at the Ashe Memorial hall last Tuesday evening. It was a real treat (or trick).
Sympathy: Everyone in the club was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Siobhan Mac Namara, Milltown following a short illness. Siobhan was the sister of Ladies Club Secretary Maurice and aunt of club players Alex, Heather, Abi & Robyn. We express our deepest sympathy all the Mac Namara family. May she rest in peace.
