Austin Stacks U12 Girls – the ‘Stacks 20 X 20 X 20′
Our U12 girls have been inspired by the 20X20 initiative https://20×20.ie/ and would like to show our stripes by undertaking the following challenge at 6pm on Thursday 22nd Aug, 2019 (Thursday before the Rose of Tralee Festival) at Austin Stacks GAA Club, Connolly Park, Tralee – 20 Austin Stacks Ladies U12 players will attempt to kick from their hands as many points as possible in 20 minutes from the 20 metres, using 20 footballs. Players will use this event to showcase their skills. Moreover, it will be a fundraising event as there will be an opportunity for others to guess in advance how many scores they will achieve in those 20 minutes. Lines will be sold as follows – €2 a line per guess or €5 for 5 lines (ie 5 guesses). The person who guesses correctly or nearest will win a Kingdom Stores luxury hamper (no alcohol) to the value of €100. In the event of a tie, a draw will be made. Funds raised will be divided into equal thirds (a) Down Syndrome Kerry (b) Kerry Hospice (c) Austin Stacks Ladies Club/U12 girls new club tops. This initiative has been undertaken with the support of the 20X20 all inclusive movement aimed at shifting Ireland’s cultural perception of women’s sport by 2020 – ‘If she can’t see it, she can’t be It’.
U13 Girls Co. Championship FT Austin Stacks 4-10 Southern Gaels 7-5. Our young guns suffered heartbreak in the most cruelest of fashions last Wednesday night (July 1st) when we conceded 2 late goals to the South Kerry Divisional side – Southern Gales. This was a fantastic game with goals galore, no shortage of fine fielding , heroic defending and a grand stand finish which unfortunately we didn’t come out the right side of. Half time score we trailed 3-2 to 2-3 but two early second half back to back goals had us in the driving seat all throughout the 2nd half. With just 5 minutes remaining we led 4-10 to 5-4 but Southern Gaels to their credit never gave up and with just minutes remaining came up trumps in securing firstly the goal they needed to draw the game, before putting a Stacks victory out of reach with another net buster and converting a close range free, to give them a winning margin of four. We have nothing but praise for our girls who put in a fantastic display of football on the night. There is no doubt that there will be other great days ahead for this talented team. Our scorers on the night: Lucy O’Donnell (2-1), Holly O’Brien (0-2), Grace Lucid (0-3), Saoirse Moriarty (0-3), Colleen Sayers (1-1), Deirdre Quigley (1-0).
U15 Girls Co. Championship – we will play away to Abbeydorney in the U15 Co. Championship Semi Final at 7.30pm this Sunday Aug 4th.
U16 Girls: We played 2 useful challenge games last week away to Kerins O’Rahillys on Tuesday July 23rd and home to Ballyvourney on Thursday July 25th. Thanks to our U16 team mentors for submitting an application to include an Austin Stacks U17 team in this year’s Co. Championship. We will be away to Listowel on August 15th.
Senior Ladies: Our Mary Jo Curran Cup group game V Ballymac was played in Connolly Park on Monday last July 29th – FT Austin Stacks 6-15 Ballymac 3-5. Our scorers on the night: Breda Slattery (0-8), Caroline Harrington (1-1), Mollie O’Carroll (4-1), Megan O’Brien (0-2), Ciara Nix (0-1), Kerry Oba (1-0), Emma Mc Carthy (0-1) & Sophie Norris (0-1). Three days later (Thurs Aug 1st) we were in action again as we took on Abbeydorney in RD 1 of the North Kerry Ladies Senior Div 1 League. FT Austin Stacks 6-12 Abbeydorney 2-3. Scorers: Mollie O Carroll (3-2), Emma Mc Carthy (1-1), Megan O’Brien (1-3), Aisling O Mahony (1-3), Sarah Fitzgerald (0-1), Lauren Barrett (0-1), Caoimhe Barry Walsh (0-1). This is the first year that a Senior League has been run by North Kerry Ladies and this is a very welcome development. Other teams in Div 1 include – Na Gaeil, Ballymac, Finuge/St Senans, Currow, Abbeydorney & Listowel. Next up in the NK Div 1 league is an away game V Listowel at 7.30pm this Friday Aug 9th.
