Girls Academy: The boys & girls of Killarney Legion paid their annual visit to Connolly Park last Sunday morning for some challenge games to mark the end of our 2018 season. Thanks to all the girls who have participated in our Sunday morning sessions in great numbers since last February, we can only recall one Sunday being cancelled due to weather. We enjoyed many matches over the duration of the season welcoming Ballymac, Milltown Castlemaine, Killarney Legion & Abbeydorney amongst others to Connolly Park and also making return visits to most of those clubs. The highlight for the U10 & U8 girls was the superbly organised Munster LGFA blitz held in Fossa during August. Sincere thanks to those who have helped with the academy during the year: Pat, Mark, Niall, Sheila, Grainne, Ciara, Elma, Robert, Donal, Diarmuid, Dan, Ciarán, Karen & Myrna. It is the enthusiasm and commitment of our mentors that keep the girls coming back week after week and we could not be more grateful to you. Enjoy the break.
U11 Girls: With the agreement of the 4 clubs – Stacks, Abbeydorney, Ballymac & Kerins O’Rahilly – the North Kerry U11 league will be run off as a one day blitz this Sunday morning in Connolly Park with games commencing at 11am. Reminder U11 Development for the North Kerry area takes place this Saturday October 6th in Ballyrickard from 10am to 11.15am. Players born 2007 and 2008 are eligible.
U12 Girls: Our U12 girls ended their season with a trip to Cork last weekend which they self-financed through a bag-pack. First off was 2 challenge games & 2 wins at Bishopstown GAA and then a fun afternoon at Fota Wildlife Park. This team is to be highly complimented on their ‘can do attitude’ – earlier in the year the girls also did a fundraiser to purchase new tops and shorts. A superb bunch of girls who are fortunate to have a great team of dedicated mentors looking after them. Huge thanks to Super mentors Anthony, Aidan, Siobhan, Marion, Pa, Jimmy & Karen.
U13 North Kerry Ladies District Championship: An amalgamated Tralee district team – KOR, Stacks, Na Gaeil & JM will play in the Semi Final of the U13 District Championship V St. Kierans this Sat at the John Mitchels Complex. The 2nd semi final is Feale Gaeils V North Kerry. Semi finals at 1.30pm. Cup and Shield finals @ 2.30pm. Games 20 mins a side.
U14 Girls: We enjoyed a win over Currow in North Kerry League Div 4 last week FT Stacks 4-10 (22) Currow 6-2 (20). We now have one more game left to play in this Div and that is an away game V Ballymac which will be played this Sunday. Our U14 Div 1 team lost out to Abbeydorney in Connolly Park last Tuesday evening on a score line of Abbeydonrey 3-6 Austin Stacks 1-8. A solid enough performance from our girls who were without some key players on the night. We now play our final game in this competition which will be the Shield Final V Beale/Ballyduff (date tbc). U14 Town League will be run off in a blitz format this year – more details to follow.
U16 Girls: We have entered a team in the Tralee Town League which this year will be run off in the format of a one day blitz. No date yet for the competition.
Cake Sale: Thanks to everyone who supported our club cake sale last Sunday morning. Special thanks to Gillian & Ciara who answered early morning 999 calls to come down to help. Thanks to Tim in the Boys club for his help organising this annual event and to Killarney Legion club mentors & their Secretary Denise who by promoting our event within their own club always ensure that our annual Cake Sale is always a sell out. Also a word of appreciation to Fiona Cotter of Kirby’s Brogue Inn who arrived on the morning with complimentary boxes of fresh scones & croissants to add to our baking donations. Our final Ladies Club fundraiser of the year will be a Bag Pack in Garveys Super Valu on Friday & Saturday Nov 2nd & 3rd – so please play your part in helping us out – if anyone wants to get in early and book a slot which is convenient to them just text Elma on 086 1053300.
Sympathy: Everyone in the Austin Stacks Ladies club extends their sympathy to Club Photographer Adrienne Mc Loughlin on the passing of her mother Mrs. Maeve O’Donnell. May she rest in peace.
