JOHN BARRETT: He came from a family steeped in Rock History. His father was Joe Barrett who won six All Ireland SF medals with Kerry (1924-1932), six SF (1925-1932) and three SH Co. Championship medals (1928-1931). His brother was Jo Jo Barrett who was also a Kerry and Rock footballer winning a SF All Ireland in 1962 and two Co. Championship medals in 1973 and 1975. To-day his first cousin, Eddie Barrett, continues to serve the Club as its Co. Board delegate. John died at the relatively young age of 58 – twenty five years ago on this day (24th June 1995). He played Senior Championship Football with the Club from 1954 to 1959 and was Club Chairman for two consecutive seasons in 1961 and 1962. He was an outstanding Sports Journalist with The Kerryman, The Irish Press and ended his days with the Irish Post in London – excelling in Gaelic Games, Greyhound Sports and Horse Racing.
