Connolly Park was a hive of activity on Monday 7th May for Lá na gClub, and the 5/10k memorial fun run and walk in memory of Paul Lucey, which attracted an entry of almost 500 participants of all ages.
PAUL LUCEY MEMORIAL RUN/WALK.
Our inaugural ‘Run for the Rock – Paul Lucey Memorial Walk/Run’ took place on Bank Holiday Monday May 7th. This was our first time undertaking such an event and all the hard work by so many people over many months paid off as the event went off without a hitch and was enjoyed by upwards of 500 participants. Competitors assembled from 10am with DJ Francie pumping out the tunes and creating a great pre-race atmosphere. The race commenced promptly at 11am with the routes well stewarded by club volunteers who also manned a water station at the 6k mark. Race Winners Presentations were made by Pamela & Ciara Lucey to: Mens 10k – 1st Derek Griffin (32 mins), Womens 10k 1st Catherine Kiely (38 mins). Mens 5K winner Tim Francony. Ladies 5K winner Marie Mc Kenna. Everyone who completed the race received a fabulous ‘Run for the Rock’ medal. After the race competitors, members and families mingled in glorious sunshine in the Club grounds where complimentary refreshments were provided. Our thanks to the Terry’s Butchers for the delicious burgers, Kinsale Tea & Coffee (Kate Browne’s Ardfert), Ice Cream Truck (O’Flynn Interiors & Lucid Insurance). The winners bouquets kindly sponsored by Maura’s Cottage Flowers. We would also like to acknowledge sponsorship from: ROTHCO, Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Pierse Mc Carthy Lucey Solicitors, Murphy Ramsey Walsh Solicitors, Martin Moore, Oakland Stores, Barry Packaging, Harry Hynes, Kerry Co. Council, Eamon Linnane, EF Signs, TLI, Casey Stephenson, Noreen & Liam Liddy, Sports Physio Supplies, Liam Lynch, Leahy’s Pharmacy, CWM Mangement, Oakpark Medical Centre & the Roast House. Sincere thanks to our wonderful organising committee of Niall Lucey, Eileen Nagle, Mags Quillinan, Orla Foley, Tim Mc Mahon & Paudie Mc Quinn and also thanks to all the club volunteers who assisted us on the morning.
