SENIOR FOOTBALL: The draw has been made for this season’s Club Championship which is due to get underway on the last week-end of March. The Senior Club Championship is divided into two groups of 4. We are in Group 1 together with Dingle, Kenmare Shamrocks and the current All Ireland Intermediate Champions, Kilcummin. In Group 2 are Dr. Crokes, Kerins O’Rahillys, Killarney Legion and Rathmore.
Town League Up-date: Ballymac have today conceded Rd 4 of the Town League which was due to be played this Sunday and we also can advise that following last night’s Town Board Meeting the Board have awarded Austin Stacks the points from our Rd 1 game V Na Gaeil.
Thanks to to Senior Team Selector Jonathan Conway who represented Austin Stacks last Monday night (Feb 18th) at the Kerry GAA Credit Union Co League 2019 launch. Jonathan was also presented with the club’s 2018 Div 2 winners cheque.
BEST OF LUCK: to former SF Team Physio, Derek Griffin, as he makes his way to the Far East next week to take part in the Tokyo Marathon which takes place on Sunday week (3rd March). Like the 4 Majors in World Tennis the Marathon world boasts 6 Majors. Derek has already taken part in 5 of these (London, New York, Boston, Chicago and Berlin), so it will be an outstanding achievement when he competes in the 6th Major in over a week’s time.
WELL DONE: to Dr. Crokes on their win over the Longford and Leinster Champions, Mullinalaghta in last Saturday’s All Ireland Club semi final at Semple Stadium. They will now face last year’s Champions, Corofin, in the final on St. Patrick’s Day.
MINOR FOOTBALL: Laune Rangers 2-14; Austin Stacks 1-12.
In the first half of this opening round of the Co. League played in Killorglin on last Saturday afternoon (16th Feb) we continued to play with the same brand of open, attacking football as we had played in our opening two games of the season last week and the week before. Consequently we went in at half time with a five points lead (1-8 to 0-6) after a near-perfect performance by all of our starting 15, including a brilliant 25th minute save by goalkeeper, Ben Quilter.
By the 9th minute of the 2nd half we had increased that lead to six points (1-10 to 0-7). But three minutes later a casual pass out of defence was intercepted by an alert Rangers forward resulting in their first goal of the game. That breathed new life into the Killorglin boys as we totally capitulated after that. In the remaining 23 minutes of the game (five additional minutes were added) we could only muster two more points while Rangers went on to score a further 1-7 to give them a five points winning margin.
Team: Ben Quilter, Niall Fitzmaurice, Luke Chester (0-1), Joey Nagle, Pádraic Linnane, Dara Barry Walsh, Eoghan Carroll, Seán Quilter (Capt) (0-4 – 3 frees), Armin Heinrich (0-1), Dean Rusk, Jordan Kissane (0-1), Daniel O’Rourke (0-1), Shane Bastible (0-2), Conor Myers (1-2), Cian Purcell.
It’s now to back to the Town League on this coming week-end. We are away to Ballymac in the 3rd and final round on next Saturday afternoon (23rd Feb). Throw-in at 4pm – keep in touch with website for final confirmation. Then on the following week-end we resume Co. League activity with a home game against Killarney Legion.
