SENIOR FOOTBALL: Kerins O’Rahillys 1-7; Austin Stacks 0-8.
In a rain-soaked Austin Stack Park on a wintry Saturday evening (3rd Nov) Kerins O’Rahillys won their third Town Championship (The Roddy O’Donnell Cup) in a row with two points to spare at the end.
They led by 1-4 to 0-2 at half time, the only goal of the game coming in the 11th minute. Our two points of the half came from a Shane O’Callaghan free in the 12th minute and a 19th minute one from play by Darragh O’Brien.
We had a far better second half , reducing Rahillys lead to just one point after 24 minutes – Darragh O’Brien with three and one from corner-back, Dylan Casey our scorers. But in the last ten minutes (there were four minutes of additional time) Rahillys regrouped, scoring three points to our two (Darragh O’Brien again on target as well as Barry Shanahan). We could have scored at least two goals late on but for two super saves by Rahillys keeper, Shane Foley which earned him the Man of the Match Award at the end of the game.
