U16 Central League Div 1 Rd 4
Austin Stacks 7-14 An Gaeltacht 1-12
Our under sixteens turned on the style for their final round game of the central league as they dismantled An Ghaeltacht courtesy of seven goals on Monday evening.
Despite the absence of play-maker Cian Purcell and Tom O Farrell through injury Stacks were boosted with the return of power forward Liam Nolan in attack. He lined up with Conor Myers and Joe Bastible in a potent full forward line that Gaeltacht found a handful all night long. It was however the deployment of Daniel O’Rourke at central forward that was pivotal to most attacking forays and he contributed a handsome four points the total as well as numerous assists.
Gaeltacht’s aspirations were stymied early on with the concession of two soft goals from Myers and a speculative effort from Sean Quilter but with the brilliant Ruairi OBeagloi in fine form they kept the scoreboard ticking over as Stacks led 4-6 to 0-7 at the interval.
Stacks resumed the second half with Niall Fitzmaurice, David Burke and the raiding Luke Chester rock solid in the full back line. With the highly impressive Dara Barry Walsh switched on to OBeagloi our half back line also containing the flying duo of Eoin Carroll and Adam Curran launched attack after attack with Nolan, Myers and O’Rourke adding further goals.
Owen Healy and Craig Teahan did enormous work defensively for the team on the night whilst it was also good to see Mervyn Shalamba make a return. Danny Drághici made a brief appearance before once again succumbing to a persistent calf injury whilst an act of bravery in saving a certain goal saw David Oba leave the action late on.
