Minor Co. League Div 1: Austin Stacks 0-14; Na Gaeil 0-13.
Our Minors continued their winning sequence this season when they registered their 6th win out of six in summer-like conditions in Connolly Park on this Saturday evening (25th March).
When these sides met in the Town League just over a month ago we had 16 points to spare in that victory. But on this occasion (round 4 of the Co. League) we can consider ourselves very lucky to have come away with a one point win after a pulsating performance by both sides.
Na Gaeil led at one stage by five points and at half time were four ahead (0-9 to 0-5). In the second half we reversed that trend, scoring nine points to four for the opposition. In total nine of our 18 players who lined out got the score sheet.
Despite our poor start credit has to given to a brilliant second-half performance. With three minutes of normal time remaining we were still trailing by two points but three successive points (one from David Fitzmaurice and two from Michael Slattery) secured victory for us. It was good to see Joseph O’Connor making his first minor appearance of the season and he did well when coming on as a second half substitute.
Team: Robbie Murphy, Shane Kelliher, Dylan Casey Tomás Sheehy, Conor Lowe (0-1), Donagh McMahon (0-1), Odhran Liston, David Fitzmaurice (0-1), Ciarán O’Reilly (0-1 – forty five), Gearóid Sheehan (0-1), Harry O’Callaghan, Michael Linnane, Gearóid Fitzgerald (Capt) (0-1), Donagh McKivergan (0-2 – frees), Michael Slattery (0-5 – 2 frees)
Subs used: Joseph O’Connor (ht), Seán Quilter (ht) (0-1), James Quigley (44m).
Our next outing is fixed for next Friday (31st March) when we are due to travel to Dingle to play the local side in round 5 of the Co. League. The game is due to throw-in at 6.30pm.
We then have one more round to play in the Co. League (the postponed round one game away to Firies). In the Town League we have two postponed games to play (at home to Ardfert and away to Kerins O’Rahillys). Dates for these games have yet to be confirmed as we write.
